Every Thanksgiving Season, the Garden Ridge (GR) Lions provide Thanksgiving meal donations to less fortunate families in the Garden Ridge and surrounding area.
On Saturday, November 19th Garden Ridge Lion Club volunteers, delivered a complete Thanksgiving dinner to 19 deserving families in the local area. Working through local elementary school nurses and local churches we accumulated the names of the families, their addresses, phone numbers, number of children and other information to develop maps and routes to deliver the food. A partial listing of food provided in two large boxes per family included: Yams, cut green beans, corn, cornbread mix, pies, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, a 5-pound
bag of apples and also potatoes, gravy , bread, dinner rolls, tortillas, and a Turkey, plus much more.
This year we were extremely fortunate to have three Garden Ridge residents volunteer to donate 20 frozen turkeys to support our efforts. Special thanks to Garden Ridge Councilman and Lion Bryan Lantzy, Councilman Shelby Trial, and Garden Ridge resident Martin Rios for their contribution to the project. The total cost for this project was approximately $725, or, about $38 per family; a fantastic “bang for the buck” to serve our local community.
A message from Lion Carmen McCawPresident -GRLC: Greetings fellow Lions. What a great turnout we had for the pickup, packaging, and delivery of the food baskets for needy families on Saturday, 19 Nov. As usual your teamwork was super and allowed us to finish up a head of schedule! You were all extraordinary and I join with John in expressing our appreciation….WELL DONE TO ALL!
Julie and Mark, thank you for leading this effort—you demonstrated great organizational and leadership skills. It is greatly appreciated!
Have a great Thanksgiving week!
